I am a mental health social worker. The focus in my private practice is to provide therapeutic services to children and their families as well as helping women with their mental health. I deal with all sorts of traumatic, emotional and social behaviours in children. I am also a supervisor for other social workers that might need support. We have recently established an allied health centre in Beerwah, which was my vision, since I have come to realise, that there are very limited allied health services in our Hinterland.
During therapy sessions, or discussions with community members, it has come to my attention that there is a real need for more services, like counselling, occupational therapy, speech therapy, physiotherapy, etc. and I have approached an owner of a local property to discuss the idea of establishing an allied health centre which he agreed to and helped set it up.
There are still rooms available for other therapists/allied health professionals to join our clinic to provide a type of one-stop ship for the Hinterland community. Most services are on the Sunshine Coast, which means a 30 minute drive to access services, so we want to bring the services to the community.
